“… an unforgettable sequence of dramatic moments; Eerie, unsettling and tantalising.  Marlowe would have loved it.”

Scott Handy (Actor; RSC, West End)

It had that wonderful inside/outside feel as if one were watching events from long ago on some distant shore… I enjoyed the work… Well done!”

Giles Block (former Master of the Words, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre)

About The Show:

From its inception, the foundation for A Devilish Exercise was the Rose Theatre.  We chose to create a world, and a production, that was built on the elemental allure of this site, the aural offerings of the architecture, and on the human ethos that inspired Christopher Marlowe to write the plays that erupted at The Rose over four hundred years ago.  We bound together the tenets of Elizabethan Theatre, Site-Specific Theatre and the texts of Dr. Faustus, Dido Queen of Carthage, Tamburlaine and Edward II and created a Marlovian encounter that resonated with a twenty-first century sensibility.
