<p><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">About The Show:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">This new musical by James Thompson and Ben Francis is based on the 1935 book </span><em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">They Shoot Horses Don&#8217;t They?</span></em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;"> by Horace McCoy.  The production premiered with a professional cast of thirteen at the George Wood Theatre in London in September 2008 as the centre piece of Goldsmith University&#8217;s Masters Degree Showcase. The workshop/rehearsal period for the project happened over  four weeks. Future plans for the production are pending.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">About The Show:</span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">From its inception, the foundation for </span><em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">A Devilish Exercise</span></em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;"> was the Rose Theatre.  We chose to create a world, and a production, that was built on the elemental allure of this site, the aural offerings of the architecture, and on the human ethos that inspired Christopher Marlowe to write the plays that erupted at The Rose over four hundred years ago.  We bound together the tenets of Elizabethan Theatre, Site-Specific Theatre and the texts of </span><em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">Dr. Faustus</span></em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">, </span><em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">Dido Queen of Carthage</span></em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">, </span><em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">Tamburlaine </span></em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">and </span><em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">Edward II </span></em><span style="color: #c0c0c0;">and created a Marlovian encounter that resonated with a twenty-first century sensibility.</span></p>
