From its inception, the foundation for A Devilish Exercise was the Rose Theatre. We chose to create a world, and a production, that were built on the elemental allure of this site, the aural offerings of the architecture, and on the human ethos that inspired Christopher Marlowe to write the plays that erupted at The Rose over four hundred years ago.  We bound together the tenets of Elizabethan Theatre, Site-Specific Theatre and the texts of Dr. Faustus, Dido Queen of Carthage, Tamburlaine and Edward II and created a Marlovian encounter that resonated with a twenty-first century sensibility.
